Educational Assistance

Educational Assistance is available to Full Time and Part Time employees who wish to attend college or enroll in courses that benefit the Health System and relate to the individual’s career development. Employees completing Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy courses are eligible for a higher benefit amount.

Full Time and Part time employees who complete six (6) months of employment, have a satisfactory performance record, and are in good standing at the time of application are eligible to participate in the educational assistance program.

Educational courses taken on the employee’s own time, at an accredited institution, which are related to any position at Redeemer Health are covered under the Educational Assistance benefit. Textbook and tuition fees directly related to the course are also covered.

Miscellaneous fees such as student union fees, parking, shipping and handling, sales tax for books, meals, graduation fees, accommodations, etc are not covered. Exams or review classes for exams are also not covered.

The Educational Assistance benefit is as follows:

•    Full Time Employees:
Graduate/Undergraduate Courses–Up to $5,250 per calendar year

•    Part Time Employees:
Graduate/Undergraduate Courses–Up to $2,625 per calendar year

•    Full Time and Part Time Employees enrolled in Nursing (RN, LPN, BSN, MSN), Physical / Occupational / Speech Therapy Courses–
Up to $8,000 per calendar year
Note: Any Educational Assistance exceeding $ 5,250 per calendar year is considered taxable income.

Yes, you can submit the receipts for textbooks purchased for approved Educational Assistance Courses.

Yes, Redeemer Health offers a pre-payment option to have tuition and fees paid directly to the educational institution. To be eligible for prepayment, the employee must meet all eligibility requirements as outlined in the Educational Assistance Policy and be continuously employed at Redeemer Health for at least 20 hours per week for 1 year.

If you are requesting reimbursement for courses you have already paid for, you must submit the following to your Human Resources Department:
•    A completed Educational Assistance application (can be found in Human Resources or on the Intranet at Policy Tech>Human Resources Forms>Educational Assistance Application). 
•    Proof of course registration from the educational institution
•    Invoice and proof of payment for course from the educational institution
•    Grade report for the completed course

If you are eligible for and are requesting pre-payment for courses, you must submit the following:
•    A completed Educational Assistance application (can be found in Human Resources or on the Intranet at Policy Tech>Human Resources Forms>Educational Assistance Application). 
•    Proof of course registration from the educational institution
•    Invoice for course from the educational institution

Employees are required to attain a minimum grade of “C” for undergraduate courses, a passing grade as defined by College/University for graduate courses, or a “satisfactory” for non-degreed courses.

If employees do not pass the course, or if they drop some or all of the classes, the employee will be required to re-pay the educational assistance granted under the plan through payroll deductions.

​​​​​​​If an employee resigns from Redeemer Health within one year from receiving the benefit, they will be required to repay the educational assistance.

If all required documentation is provided, and the application is complete, please allow three weeks for processing. If any application is incomplete, it will be returned for completion.

All educational assistance maximums are calculated on the calendar year for tax purposes, not on the school calendar.
