Paid Time Off is a benefit that provides employees with the opportunity to take time away from work without loss of compensation. It is provided for the purpose of rest, relaxation or to attend to personal affairs. Paid Time Off must be scheduled in advance and approved by your supervisor, except in cases of emergency or illness preventing advance scheduling. Paid Time Off time will be used for each occurrence of personal illness of 3 days (up to 24 hours) or less.

Extended Sick Leave (ESL) is time available for absences related to the employee’s own illness. It may be accessed after 3 days (up to 24 hours) of absence.

Paid time off time can be used for whatever you wish- Vacations, caring for children, sick, etc. Employees will be required to follow departmental guidelines for paid time off scheduling.

Extended sick leave is time that you can use AFTER missing 3 days (24 hours) for personal health reasons. You must use paid time off to cover the first 3 days (24 hours) before extended sick leave becomes payable.

If an employee has no paid time off time available and calls out sick, the first 3 days (24 hours) of absence will not be paid. After the 3 days (24 hours) of unpaid time, the extended sick leave bank may be used.

Employees who leave in good standing will have their paid time off balance paid out. Extended sick leave balances are not paid out at the time of termination.

The maximum paid time off carryover is 1.5 times your Paid Time Off accrual. The maximum extended sick leave balance is 960 hours.

During an approved consecutive FMLA leave for your own serious health condition, the first 3 days (24 hours) of your absence will be charged to your PTO bank. Beginning on the fourth day (hour 25), the time will be paid from your available ESL bank. During an approved FMLA Leave to care for a sick family member (spouse, child or parent), eligible employees are permitted to use their accrued PTO time only.

Full Time and Part Time employees are eligible to be paid a maximum of three consecutive scheduled working days in the event of a death in the immediate family. PRN and Supplemental staff will qualify for one paid day based on their scheduled hours for the defined family members.

Immediate family members are defined as: Husband, Wife, Mother, Father, Daughter, Son, Mother-in-Law, Father-in-Law, Brother, Sister, Grandparent, Step-Parent, Step-Child, Grandchild, Son and Daughter In-Law.
